When George Elisha Tibbetts was born on June 5, 1891, in La Crosse, Wisconsin, his father, Corydon, was 39 and his mother, Paula, was 35. He had two brothers and two sisters. He entered the military service in North Dakota and served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Corporal in Company C, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on October 9, 1918 and is now buried in Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial, Romagne-sous-Montfaucon, Departement de la Meuse, Lorraine, France.
