When Clarence Adam Held and his twin brother Arthur were born on May 23, 1895, in Merton, Wisconsin, their father, Philipp, was 40, and their mother, Wilhelmine, was 36. He had four brothers and four sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company F, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on October 5, 1918 and is now buried in Saint Pauls UCC Cemetery, Plat, Washington County, Wisconsin, USA.
