When Allen F. Malpass was born on July 27, 1889, in Washington, his father, William, was 34 and his mother, Mary, was 24. He had three brothers and two sisters. On October 3, 1917 he was sent to Camp Lewis and remained there until October 29 when he was sent on to Camp Mills, New York and placed in Company B, 161st Infantry. He remained there until December 10 when he was sent to France. Arriving there, he was found to be suffering from an attack of scarlet fever and was removed to a French hospital where he was confined for 72 days. On leaving the hospital, he was assigned to the automatic rifle squad in Company K, 18th Infantry, going to the front about June 1, 1918. He was killed on the night of October 2 1918, in the second defense of the Meuse-Argonne forest. He is now buried in Odd Fellows Memorial Park and Mausoleum, Tumwater, Thurston County, Washington, USA. His Victory medal contains four stripes.
