When Wilson Sprowl was born on March 16, 1896, his father, Levi, was 29 and his mother, Samantha, was 27. He had three brothers and one sister. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company L, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on October 4, 1918 in France at the age of 22 and is now buried in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Arlington County, Virginia, USA. His name is commemorated on the First Infantry Division monument in Saint-Juvin, France but his surname is inscribed as Sprowe.
