When Clinton Stoddard was born on September 23, 1896, his father, Charles, was 40 and his mother, Jennie, was 36. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company B, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on October 8, 1918 at the age of 22 and is now buried in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hartford, Van Buren County, Michigan, USA. The American Legion Stoddard Post 93 was named in his honor.
