When Fred Lee Brooks was born on December 9, 1897, his father, Charles, was 42 and his mother, Isadora, was 37. He had two brothers and three sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Corporal in Company C, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on October 5, 1918 in France at the age of 20 and is now buried in Highland Lawn Cemetery, Terre Haute, Vigo County, Indiana, USA.
