When Phillip Gallagher was born on June 21, 1893, in Cleveland, Ohio, his father, John, was 32 and his mother, Bridget, was 31. He had two brothers and five sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company D, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on October 3, 1918 in Argonne offensive and is now buried in Calvary Cemetery, Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio, USA. His name is commemorated on the First Infantry Division monument in Saint-Juvin, France but his surname is inscribed as Glagher.
