When Gail Gibson was born on May 3, 1894, in Terre Haute, Indiana, his father, Ira, was 37 and his mother, Martha, was 24. He had two brothers and one sister. He was a miner before enlisting. He entered the military service in Georgia and served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company D, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action October 6, 1918 in the Argonne Forest drive at the age of 24. He was originally buried in the Argonne-American Cemetery, Romagne, France and is now buried in Harpold Cemetery, Ehrmandale, Vigo County, Indiana, USA.
