Private Sanders was born in Youngstown in 1893, residing there his entire life. Shortly after war was declared on his country, Private Sanders entered the service, and after several months preliminary training was sent overseas as a member of Co I, 26th Infantry. He was engaged in several severe front engagements before he was detailed to the Argonne sector. He was killed in action in the Argonne Forest on October 5, 1918, and buried temporarily in that vicinity. He is now buried in Lake Park Cemetery, Youngstown, Mahoning County, Ohio, USA.
