Russell Hobbs was born in St. Louis, February 23, 1895. He lived at Monett with his parents for a number of years and received his schooling in Monett public schools. He was a member of the Methodist church. When war was declared he was one of the first to enlist. He was a member of Battery A, 5th Field Artillery, First Field Artillery Brigade. He held the position of gas sentry. He had the honor of being the first volunteer from Barry County and received his training at Jefferson Barracks and Fort Bliss. He was Killed in Action on October 5, 1918 at the age of 23 and is now buried in Monett IOOF Cemetery, Monett, Lawrence County, Missouri, USA.
