When Herbert Beaver was born in January 1892 in Nebraska, his father, John, was 40 and his mother, Harriet, was 31. He had three brothers and three sisters. He enlisted on May 7, 1917, was sent to Camp Douglas, Arizona, then Hoboken, N. J., and on to France where he was in several engagements, being gassed three times. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Corporal in Battery D, 6th Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Division. On October 4, 1918, in the drive against the Germans in the Argonne, he was so severely wounded that he never recovered from his wounds. He died the following day. He is now buried in Sunrise Cemetery, Wahoo, Saunders County, Nebraska, USA.
