Alexander Gosselin served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Sergeant in Company B, 2nd Field Signal Battalion, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on October 4, 1918 and is now buried in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Arlington County, Virginia, USA. His name is commemorated on the First Infantry Division monument in Saint-Juvin, France but his surname is inscribed as Goselin. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for extraordinary heroism in action near Exermont, France, October 4, 1918. After finishing the work of laying telephone lines on high ground under heavy artillery fire and direct observation of the enemy, Sergeant Gosselin ordered his men to shelter and remained behind to repair breaks caused by the shelling. He was killed a few minutes later by the explosion of a shell.
