Lafayette E. Yount was born on May 2, 1896 in Putnam, Ohio. He was the son of John T. White and Eliza Yount. He enlisted in the Army on March 28, 1918 and served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company A, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on October 9, 1918 and is now buried in New Bethany Cemetery, Du Pont, Ohio, USA. His name is commemorated on the First Infantry Division monument in Saint-Juvin, France under Missing in Action section but his surname is inscribed as Yaunt.
