When Gailey Clark was born on May 20, 1890, in Michigan, his father, David, was 34 and his mother, Mary, was 26. He had three brothers and four sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private First Class in Company C, 1st Engineer Combat Battalion, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on October 9, 1918 and is now buried in Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial, Romagne-sous-Montfaucon, Departement de la Meuse, Lorraine, France.
