When Edgar E. "Ed" Snethen was born on August 18, 1891, in Newton, Illinois, his father, Frederick, was 34 and his mother, Anna, was 35. He married Clara Summers Fletcher in August 1917 in Franklin, Illinois. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company G, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on October 13, 1918 in France at the age of 27 and is now buried in Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery, Benton, Franklin County, Illinois, USA. His name is commemorated on the First Infantry Division monument in St. Juvin, France under the MISSING IN ACTION section.
