When Charles G Sturgeon was born on May 17, 1890, in Brown, Indiana, his father, Gilman, was 28 and his mother, Minerva, was 22. He had three brothers and three sisters. He enlisted in U.S. Regular Army on March 19, 1915, sent to Jefferson Barracks, MO and assigned to Company G, 7th Infantry. He was then sent to Mexican Border and later embarked for overseas on October 31, 1917. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Sergeant in Company M, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He participated in the battles of Cantigny, Montdidier, Noyon, Aisne-Marne, and St. Mihiel. He died from his wounds received in battle on October 11, 1918 in France at the age of 28 and is now buried in Duncan Cemetery, Nashville, Brown County, Indiana, USA.
