James Edward Cawley was born on September 27, 1911 in Richmond County, Georgia. He was the son of Mark Luke Cawley and Annie Lee Inglett Cawley. He was married to Christina Claddie Cain and they had two sons. James served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private in the 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on June 6, 1944 during the invasion on Omaha Beach, France at the age of 32 and is now buried in West View Cemetery, Augusta, Richmond County, Georgia, USA.
