Charles W. Martin was born on April 2, 1919. He was educated at the Batavia and Canandaigua public schools and was graduated from the Canandaigua Academy in 1938. He joined the Army in October 1940 at Batavia, where he had been employed as a motion picture projection operator. Martin's family moved to Lockport in 1941 from Canandaigua. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Sergeant in the 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on June 15, 1944 in France at the age of 25 and is now buried in Cold Springs Cemetery, Lockport, Niagara County, New York, USA.
