Melvin V. Flager was born in 1923 in Michigan. He was the son of Vernon Flager and Lola Sumner Ensign Flager. Melvin had been in the army two years. He received his basic training at Fort Knox, Ky., and was sent to North Africa. After participating in the North African campaign and in the fighting in Sicily, he was one of the veterans picked for the invasion of France. He was Killed in Action on June 6, 1944 during the invasion on Omaha Beach and is now buried in Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-sur-Mer, France.
