James Lee Lafever was born on January 30, 1922. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private in Company F, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He formed part of an assault platoon storming Omaha Beach in the first wave, at 6.40 am of June 6, 1944, under the guns of a German strong point. All the officers in his company had been wounded or killed by noon. He is now buried in Palmer Cemetery, Silver Point, Putnam County, Tennessee, USA.
