Robert Lee Hessong was born on April 19, 1922 in Wolfsville, Frederick County, Maryland. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Hessong. A graduate of Middletown High School in 1940, Robert was 22 years old and entered the service in December, 1942. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private First Class in the 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He had seen action in the African and Sicilian campaigns. He was Killed in Action on June 12, 1944 in Caen, France at the age of 22 and is now buried in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick, Frederick County, Maryland, USA.
