Walter Larsen resided in Hudson County, New Jersey prior to the war. He enlisted in the Army on June 20, 1941, prior to the war, in Trenton, New Jersey. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Carpenter and also as Single, without dependents. Walter served as a First Lieutenant, Office of Strategic Services, European Theater, U.S. Army during World War II.

Walter was "Killed In Action" when he was shot by the Germans during Operation Christopher near Maisey-le-Duc, France. Operation Christoper's mission was to harass or destroy remnants of enemy escaping from Southwest France north and east to the Belfort Gap into Germany.
