PFC Fowler Jackson Jr. was one of many to be awarded a medal for fighting on Mount Raimo on 30 December 1943 per Headquarters, 45th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 174 (1944). Per the book “The Story of the 180th Infantry Regiment”: "ss his Company (Company K, 180th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division) advanced towards to objective, PFC Fowler Jackson Jr. of Mt Holly, NC, saw that his squad leader was wounded by rifle fire. At that time Jackson was in a comparatively safe position behind a rock while the squad leader was in the open. Jackson left his covered position and crawled to the side of the squad leader only to find him dead. He then started to crawl back to his platoon only to be struck three times in the chest and arms by small arms fire. Nevertheless, he crawled back to the Platoon position to deliver the news of the squad leaders death to the Platoon Leader. Then despite being wounded, he continued to his original firing position and participated in combat until ordered back to the aid station by medics”.
