Lloyd Leslie Bjerk was born on July 13, 1920 in Hennepin County, Minnesota. He was the son of Carl Emil Bjerk and Nellie Jewel Lund Bjerk. He served in the 374th Bomb Squadron, 308th Bomb Group as a Second Lieutenant and Navigator of an aircraft. Lloyd was Killed in Action over China on May 8, 1945 at the age of 24. He is now buried in the Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota, USA. He was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
