John D. Emmeluth was born on July 29, 1920 in Connecticut. He resided in Westchester County, New York prior to the war. He enlisted in the Army on August 20, 1942 at Fort Jay, Governor's Island, New York. He was noted as being employed as a heat treater and also as Single, without dependents. John served as a Technician Fifth Grade, Company A, 3841st Quartermaster Truck Company, 478th Quartermaster Battalion, U.S. Army during World War II.

He was flying, possibly as a Crew member, to pickup or drop off equipment on C-47A #43-15783 which was assigned to the the 11th Squadron, 3rd Combat Cargo Group, U.S. Army Air Force. John was "Killed In Action" when the C-47 he was on was shot down and crashed near Mogaung, China during the war. He is now buried in the Long Island National Cemetery, East Farmingdale, Suffolk County, New York, USA in a common grave with his crew.

John was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
