Willis L. North was born on December 26, 1920. He entered the military service in May 1942 and for 13 months had been with the Air Transport Command in India during World War II. First Lieutenant North was killed in an airplane he was piloting in the Asitic area on August 10, 1944 at the age of 23. He is now buried in the Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota, USA. He was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
