James E. Norton was born on October 26, 1920. He was the son of Charles E. Norton and Anne Lee Goolsby Norton. He served in the 11th Combat Cargo Squadron as a First Lieutenant and Co-Pilot of an aircraft during World War II. 1Lt Norton died on June 14, 1944 at the age of 23 and is now buried in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Honolulu County, Hawaii, USA. He also has a cenotaph located in Pine Hill Primitive Baptist Cemetery, Ripley, Tippah County, Mississippi. He was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China but death date is inscribed as 1944-06-15 and ranked as a Second Lieutenant.
