Claud Roger Wood was born on June 22, 1920 in Wenatchee, Chelan County, Washington. He was the son of Robert James Wood and Jennie Alice Rogers Williamson. He served in the 373rd Bomber Squadron, 308th Bomber Group, Heavy as a Second Lieutenant and Co-Pilot of an aircraft during World War II. He died on May 12, 1945 in China and is now buried in the Wenatchee City Cemetery, Wenatchee, Chelan County, Washington, USA.

2Lt Wood was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China but his name is inscribed as Claud and death date as 1945-05-11.
