William F. Short, Jr. was born on March 6, 1922. He served in the 425th Bomber Squadron, 308th Bomber Group as a Staff Sergeant during World War II. He was killed in the crash of B-24 42-73502 "Belle of the Brawl" in China on July 8, 1944 at the age of 22 and is now buried in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Honolulu County, Hawaii, USA. Sgt Shot was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
