Walter Curtis Carr was born on August 22, 1924. He was the son of Herman J. Carr and Margaret S. Carr. Walter was a graduate of Dunbat Township High School. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on January 7, 1942.

A copilot on a Flying Fortress which participated in many raids over German-occupied Europe and who survived the record raid when 60 Allied bombers were lost had been reported Missing in Action that time. Later came confirmation of his death. Walter was Killed in Action during a mission to Gelsenkirchen, flying aboard 42-30852 but was declared Missing in Action on November 5, 1943. Lt Carr was struck in the back by a 20mm shell fragment. His name is memorialized on the Tablets of the Missing, Netherlands American Cemetery, Margraten, Netherlands. He also has a cenotaph located in Mount Auburn Cemetery, Dunbar, Fayette County, Pennsylvania.
