William Robertson was born on January 7, 1924 and was a Lieutenant in the 69th Infantry Division during WW2.
Lt William D. Robertson, US Army, of Los Angeles, at age 21 was a staff officer of the 1st Battalion of the 273rd Infantry Regiment, 69th Division, when he led a four-man patrol that were among first Americans to make contact with the Russian Army at the famous bridge across the Elbe River at Torgau, Germany, on April 25, 1945. He was the first to bring Soviet troops to meet with an American commander. He held four medals, including the Soviet Order of Alexander Nevsky.
Robertson graduated from the University of California San Francisco medical school in 1951 and completed his residency in neurosurgeon in 1961 with the the UCLA Department of Neurosurgery. He was preceded in death by his wife Nancy. They had four boys.
