Harold D. Wood was born on November 27, 1920 in Cooks Falls, Delaware County, New York. He was the son of Herbert E Wood and Vesta Robinson Wood. He served in the 379th Fighter Squadron, 362nd Fighter Group as a First Lieutenant during World War II. On August 5, 1944, 1LT Wood was killed in a crash a mile southwest of A12, France as he was returning from a mission. He had been directed to land at another base, but did not want to miss his flight home for a 30-day leave the next day. Instead, in socked-in conditions, Wood's P-47 crashed. 1LT Wood is now buried in the Riverview Cemetery, Roscoe, Sullivan County, New York, USA.
