Richard Petrie was born on December 15, 1922. Heserved in the 377th Fighter Squadron, 362nd Fighter Group as a Second Lieutenant during World War II. On August 1, 1944, he took of from A-12 airfield Lignerolles, France on an armed reconnaissance mission to Villedieu-les-Poêles, France. He flew in n°4 of the section led by 1Lt Francis A. Connor, Jr. Shot down by flak, he evacuated his plane at about 1000 feet around 7:45 p.m. and went down near St-Sever-Calvados (12 km W Vire) but was taken as prisoner. He was also listed as Missing in Action but later was declared Killed in Action on the day of his capture. He is now buried in the Crown Hill Cemetery, Orrville, Wayne County, Ohio, USA.
