James William Pettit was born on September 22, 1924. He served in the 378th Fighter Squadron, 362nd Fighter Group as a Second Lieutenant and Pilot of the P-47 #42-76469 during World War II. on August 20, 1944, he took from A-27 airfield at Rennes St. Jacques, France on a ground troop support at south-east of France. He was shot down in an air combat causing his plane to crash, touching the ground then exploded, near Poissy-sur-Seine, France. 2LT Pettit was killed in the crash and he is now bureid in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Glendale, Los Angeles County, California, USA.
