Laird Woodruff Hendricks Jr., from Florida, was born on June 3, 1916. After flight school, he accepted an assignment as a four-engine instructor for the RAF. It was in London, England he made his last flight aboard B-17C AN534. On July 28, 1941, 1Lt Hendricks was Killed in Action when his airplane crashed near Stoke Albany, England, during a test flight. It went out of control and into a dive breaking in two before hitting the ground and was totally wrecked. All seven crew members were killed. He is now buried in the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Arlington County, Virginia, USA.
