Joseph Francis Spicer was born on April 23, 1920. He was the son of Julia L. Godart Spicer.

Joseph served in the 334th Bomber Squadron, 95th Bomber Group, Heavy, as a Second Lieutenant and Bombardier on the B-17G #42-31123 during World War II. At about 8:30 am on November 19, 1943, B17 #42-31123 took off on a mission to Germany. When it failed to gain flying speed and was banking to turn, it stalled and crashed at Redlingfield, Suffolk. All men aboard were killed in the crash. 2Lt Spicer is now buried in the Highland Park Cemetery, Pittsburg, Crawford County, Kansas, USA.
