Charles E. Phinney was born on August 1, 1915. He served in the 334th Bomber Squadron, 95th Bomber Group, Heavy, as a Sergeant and Ball Turret Gunner on the B-17G #42-31123 during World War II. At about 8:30 am on November 19, 1943, B17 #42-31123 took off on a mission to Germany. When it failed to gain flying speed and was banking to turn, it stalled and crashed at Redlingfield, Suffolk. All men aboard were killed in the crash. Sgt Phinney is now buried in the New Albany National Cemetery, New Albany, Floyd County, Indiana, USA.
