Harold E. Kline was born on February 14, 1918. He served in the 71st Fighter Squadron, 1st Fighter Group, as a Fighter Pilot during World War II. On August 18, 1944, aboard the P-38 Lightning #42-104124, he took off at Aghione, Corsica, France, for targets of opportunity in the Toulouse area. At about 11:45 AM, he was shot down while strafing a transport convoy. The plane passed on its back, hit the ground, and exploded. It crashed in Pioch de Caunas in Pézenas.
