John L. Hubbard, a Harvard graduate, was born on November 9, 1895, in Rochelle, New York. He served in the 3rd Aviation Instruction Center as a First Lieutenant during World War I. He was killed on August 18, 1918, in Issoudun, France, when his airplane fell during his training. He is now buried in the St. Mihiel American Cemetery, Thiaucourt, France. He has a cenotaph located in the Beechwoods Cemetery, New York. 1Lt Hubbard was one of the 171 American servicemen who trained at the Third Aviation Instruction Center in France and died between 1917-1919.
