Lenwood Hugh Ott was born on July 25, 1894, in Lexington, Virginia. He lived in Washington, D. C., for nineteen years.

Lenwood enlisted in the Aviation Corps as soon as the war was declared and went to ground school in Austin, Tex. After receiving his ground training, he was sent to Dayton, Ohio, for flying. He left for France and soon afterward was made instructor in a training school.

1Lt Wood was killed in an airplane accident on August 9, 1918, and is now buried in the St. Mihiel American Cemetery, Thiaucourt, France. He was one of the 171 American servicemen who trained at the Third Aviation Instruction Center in France and died between 1917-1919.
