Arthur Meredyth Roberts was born on October 17, 1889, in Charleston, South Carolina. He was the son of David Roberts and Belle Sumter Yates Roberts.

Arthur enlisted at Birmingham, Alabama, on August 22, 1917. At the time of his death, he was serving the US Air Service as a First Lieutenant. Arthur was killed in a training accident in France on October 18, 1918, and is now buried in the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Arlington County, Virginia, USA. He also has a cenotaph located in the Elmwood Cemetery, Birmingham, Alabama. 1Lt Roberts was one of the 171 American servicemen who trained at the Third Aviation Instruction Center in France and died between 1917-1919.
