Ingle S. Smith was born on February 15, 1895, in Beallsville, Ohio. He was the son of Silburn B. Smith and Annie Mary Tracy Smith.

Ingle served in the 13 Co., 3rd Motor Mechanics Regiment, as a Sergeant during World War I. He died of pneumonia in France on October 4, 1918, and is now buried in the IOOF Cemetery, Saint Marys, Pleasants County, West Virginia, USA. Sgt Smith was one of the 171 American servicemen who trained at the Third Aviation Instruction Center in France and died between 1917-1919.
