Paul S. Whitehead was born in June 1898 in Pennsylvania. He was the son of Robert Benjamin Whitehead and Jessie May Hall Whitehead.

Paul entered military service in Ohio and served in the Air Service as a Second Lieutenant during World War I. He was killed in an airplane accident (mid-air collision) in France on October 2, 1918, and is now buried in the St. Mihiel American Cemetery, Thiaucourt, France. 2Lt Whitehead is now buried in the St. Mihiel American Cemetery, Thiaucourt, France. He has two cenotaphs located in the Aurora Cemetery and Westwood Cemetery in Ohio. He was one of the 171 American servicemen who trained at the Third Aviation Instruction Center in France and died between 1917-1919.
