Walter H. Wills was born on March 5, 1896, in Clinton, New Jersey. He was the son of Thomas William Wills and Fannie Augusta Meeker Wills.

Walter served as a Sergeant First Class during World War I. He died in France on October 13, 1918, and is now buried in the Clinton Cemetery, Irvington, Essex County, New Jersey, USA. SFC Wills was one of the 171 American servicemen who trained at the Third Aviation Instruction Center in France and died between 1917-1919.
