Leroy Gates Woodward was born on December 28, 1893, in Watertown, Connecticut. He was the son of Charles H Woodward and Nellie R Oatman Woodward.
Leroy served in the 8th Aviation Instruction Center as a First Lieutenant during World War I. He was killed in an airplane accident in France on August 16, 1918, and is now buried in the St. Mihiel American Cemetery, Thiaucourt, France. 1Lt Woodward was one of the 171 American servicemen who trained at the Third Aviation Instruction Center in France and died between 1917-1919.
