Jack Morris Wright was born on July 9, 1898, in New York, New York County (Manhattan), New York. He was the son of Charles Lennox Wright and Sarah Greene. When a small child, he was taken to France, where he remained until the outbreak of the war. He was educated in French schools. When he left America with the ambulance unit, he had spent three years in Andover, MA, and was about to enter Harvard.

He spent six months at the front as a driver of a camion and three months learning to fly in the First American Aviation School in France. He had just received his commission as First Lieutenant and would have been sent to the front in a few weeks time when his plane had an accident while in the air in Issoudun, France, which ended his short hour.

1Lt Wright is now buried in the St. Mihiel American Cemetery, Thiaucourt, France. He has a cenotaph located in the Onarga Cemetery in Illinois. He was one of the 171 American servicemen who trained at the Third Aviation Instruction Center in France and died between 1917-1919.
