Willis Charles "Bill" Caperton was born on August 21, 1921, in Arkoma, Le Flore County, Oklahoma. He was the son of Andrew Jackson Caperton and Vera Starnes Caperton.

Willis entered the service on October 4, 1942. He served in Company C, 2nd Ranger Battalion, as a Technician 5th Grade during World War II. He was Killed in Action on June 6, 1944, at the age of 22, at Pointe de la Percée, during the American assault on Omaha beach in France. T5 Caperton is now buried in the Cross Cemetery, Greenwood, Sebastian County, Arkansas, USA.
