Robert Lester Dailey was born on October 31, 1920, in Warren, Trumbull County, Ohio. He was the son of John Smith Dailey and Laura Jane Dailey.

Robert resided in Trumbull County, Ohio, prior to the war. He enlisted in the Army on July 17, 1942, at Fort Hayes, Columbus, Ohio. He was noted as being employed as a Driver and also as Single, without dependents.

He served in Company A, 2nd Ranger Battalion, as a Private First Class during World War II. He was Killed in Action on June 6, 1944, at the age of 23, in Vierville-sur-Mer, during the American assault on Omaha beach in France. PFC Dailey is now buried in the Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-Sur-Mer, France.
