John Dolinsky was born on May 11, 1924, in Olyphant, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania. He enlisted in the Pennsylvania National Guard on February 17, 1941, prior to the war, in Scranton, Pennsylvania. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Bookkeeping machine operator and also as a Single, without dependents.

John served in Company B, 2nd Ranger Battalion, as a Private First Class during World War II. He was Killed in Action on June 6, 1944, at the age of 20, in Vierville-sur-Mer, during the American assault on Omaha beach in France. PFC Dolinsky is now buried in the Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-Sur-Mer, France.
