Henry Stanley “Steve” Golas, from Providence County, Rhode Island, was born on January 9, 1918, in Fitchburg, Worcester County, Massachusetts.

Henry had one year of high school and had a civil occupation as a Guard. He was single without dependents upon enlistment. He enlisted at Fort Devens, Massachusetts, on February 3, 1942. He served in Company C, 2nd Ranger Battalion, as a First Sergeant during World War II. 1Sgt Golas was Killed in Action on June 6, 1944, at the age of 26, at Pointe de la Percée, during the American assault on Omaha beach in France. He is now buried in the Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-Sur-Mer, France.
